Kaptur Kool: The Selzer Residence

Friday, February 1, 2019

Time: 5-8PM

Join us for a special event at the Paul and Kay Selzer Residence designed by architect Hugh Kaptur in 1988.This rarely seen home is a late example of Kaptur’s work and a must see for architectural aficionados. Kaptur opines, “I consider the Selzer House to be the best house that I’ve ever designed.” The clients were initially skeptical (if not shocked) by Kaptur’s design: they had asked the architect for something “Mediterranean-French Provincial” but he designed what they later described as “Mexican Modern.” While still debating the proposed design, the Selzers hosted a party where guests were distracted by an architectural model of the house sitting on the Selzer’s mantlepiece. The response was so positive the Selzers were convinced to build the house. The Selzer Residence is spectacularly sited with uninterrupted westerly views of the San Jacinto mountains. As a special treat, guests will be the first to receive a copy of PSPF’s new 152-page book, The Modern Architecture of Hugh M. Kaptur, written by PSPF board member Steven Keylon. Hugh Kaptur is scheduled to attend. Hors d’oeuvres and adult beverages will be served.

We appreciate the support of Sara Swanson and Alex Dethier (Paul Kaplan Group and Palm Springs Homes).
